Jopetia Garretson lives in one of the many Newark apartments sold in sweetheart deals to the mistress of former Newark mayor Sharpe James. The mayor’s lover, Tamika Riley, didn’t do the improvements she promised. Instead, she flipped the property for a quick profit, leaving Garretson and her young daughters living in squalor. Today, James and Riley are serving prison sentences.
